A pair of Chinese imperial "peach" bowls have just fetched a world record auction price at Christie's Hong Kong. It's an indication that after decades of relative neglect the demand for Chinese art is now keeping up with the rest of the nation's booming economy.

It was a record-breaking day for Chinese art as hundreds of lots in Tuesday's sale hit the top end of their estimates. A pair of "peach" bowls from Emperor Yongzheng's reign was sold for 6.59 million US dollars to the London dealers, Eskenazi Ltd.
