Special Report:   Cultural Heritage Day

Hundreds of cultural relics from the Sanxingdui archaeological site in Sichuan province have arrived in Hong Kong.

The exhibition, featuring the ancient civilization of the Shu Kingdom, will begin next Wednesday. It will form part of a series of cultural programs celebrating the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China.

A number of national treasures will be on display throughout the exhibition, the most eye-catching, a bronze mask weighing as much as 71 kilos. The treasure was created over 3-thousand years ago. Other highlights include bronze images of deities, exquisite bronze vessels, jade pieces as well as delicate pottery ware.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong SAR government says the exhibition will give Hong Kong citizens a rare chance to explore the splendor of a lost civilization in ancient China.
