The first International Festival of the Intangible Cultural Heritage continues in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.
The local opera form is attracting attention with its magic face changing and fire breathing performances.
Another show awaits sixty-three year old Sichuan Opera artist Wang Housheng. His career started 50 years ago when he was a 13-year old boy.
And he feels lucky to have a passion for his craft.
Wang Housheng said, "It's very difficult to learn in the early stage and needs a lot of practice. When I started to learn
fire-breathing, I got hurt several times. It's a performance involving every part of your body. After all these years of performing, I cherish the Opera as the love of my life."
Sichuan Opera is one of the oldest local operas in China. It’s characterized by distinctive solos, refined acting, and talented comedians.
But most people know the Opera through its magic face-changing. Painted masks change in rapid succession within seconds.
