China's Peking Opera fans have recently been treated to a very special show, as three of the country's leading performers took part a production about the life of Chinese Opera's most often portrayed character.

"Zhuge Liang, Prime Minister" is an impressive retelling of the life of the legendary statesman, from his rise to fame to his death. Leading the show at the Changan Grand Theater in Beijing were Zhang Jianguo, Deng Muwei, and Zhang Shufang, all three are winners of the Plum Award, the highest honor for traditional opera artists.

The three-hour production consists of the highlights from the life of Zhuge Liang, a semi-deified statesman and military strategist from the Three Kingdoms era, about seventeen hundred years ago. Over the centuries, Zhuge Liang's achievements have provided ample material for China's opera performers. This latest production in Beijing is an new combination material from five traditional plays. The performance, broadcast live across the country, was highly praised by opera lovers of all ages.
