Xiangsheng, or traditional Chinese cross-talk is enjoying a revival during the May Day holiday. In the capital, Beijing, tickets have been selling out three times a week for the cross-talk show "Happy Friday".

This is the once near-extinct Beijing art of rhythmic storytelling. Of course, the accompaniment of the traditional ox-bone clappers. Originating in the Yuan Dynasty, it's been listed as part of China's national oral and intangible heritage. The ancient art is also winning the appreciation of some foreign members of the audience who see it as a sort of Chinese rap.
