The 31st Hong Kong International Film Festival kicked off Monday. For the first time, the Asian Flim Awards will be presented at this year's festival. And one of the films that will be screened is South Korean film, "I'm a Cyborg, but That's OK".
A Hong Kong official says the region is setting up about 39-million US Dollar fund to finance the production of small-scale films to stimulate the industry. Last year Hong Kong produced only 51 movies, half of it's annual production a decade ago.
Special guests at this year's film festival includes South Korea's superstar Rain, with his debut film "I'm a Cyborg, but That's OK," and director Park Chan-Wook, who has changed his directing style in the film.
S. Korean film director Park Chan-Wook said, "The reason is that all the movies I've done have been about darker themes, as I was some what underwater. So, this time making the Cyborg movie is like coming out of the water to get some air."
The year's film festival will show around 300 films from more than 50 countries and regions. The 23-day event will screen 16 world premieres and 22 Asian premieres.
