Russia's ambassador to China, Sergey Razov, spoke highly of the Year of Russia in China at a recent press conference, saying it was very successful.

Razov said more than 200 activities were held during the eight-month event. It is estimated more than 500,000 people from the Chinese section were involved in the event, which attracted hundreds of millions of participants.

He summarized the characteristics of the Year of Russia in China as well organized, unprecedented in terms of its large-scale and well attended.

Razov emphasized the two nation's media made many efforts in advertising the event, helping it become widely known and boosting its participation. He praised the Sino-Russian Friendship Tour in particular, the first large-scale cooperation between the Chinese and Russian press in history, an activity sponsored by China Radio International.

Russia also set up a news center in Beijing, hoping to continue its operation during the Year of China in 2007.
