Obama and Wang Qishan pledge to promote Sino-US ties

US President Barack Obama has met with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan. He hailed the outcome of the first China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue. Both sides are pledging to work together to promote bilateral ties.

As one of the Chinese President's special representatives for the unprecedented Strategic and Economic Dialogue, Vice Premier Wang Qishan delivered Chinese President Hu Jintao's message on promoting long-term Sino-US ties.

In the message, Hu Jintao praised the dialogue as further enhancing mutual understanding and trust,as well as expanding bilateral exchange and cooperation. He also noted that Sino-U.S. ties are at a new historic point. And that both sides are facing new opportunities. In his message, the Chinese President also pledged to jointly work with his US counterpart to achieve positive and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, US President Obama said both countries had extensive discussions on a broad range of issues during the dialogue. He said the talks helped the two sides effectively address the ongoing financial crisis and work towards achieving balanced economic growth.

Obama also expressed his hope to deepen cooperation with China in various fields. Among them, there are promoting reform of the international financial system, and conducting constructive dialogue on clean energy.
