Renowned Chinese scholar Ji Xianlin passed away last weekend at the age of 98. His funeral was held on Sunday at Beijing's Babaoshan cemetery.

Premier Wen Jiabao, top politial advisor Jia Qinglin, senior party official Li Changchun and Vice Premier Li Keqiang attended the funeral.
Ji Xianlin is best remembered for his achievements in research on ancient Indian aboriginal languages, primeval Buddhist languages and Sanskritic literature. He also gained distinction for translating works from ancient Indian and primeval Buddhist languages. Ji was well-versed in 12 foreign languages. He served as a professor at Peking University.
