5th Cross-Strait forum closes

The 5th Cross-Strait Economic, Trade and Culture forum closed in Changsha, in Hunan Province on Sunday. Both Chinese mainland and Taiwan participants agreed to promote cultural exchanges and educational cooperation across the Taiwan Strait.

Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Jia Qinglin addressed the closing ceremony, and highly praised a joint-recommendation made during the forum.

CPPCC chairman Jia Qinglin said, "This is a joint proposal made on the basis of a collective effort. And I think the joint-recommendation was based on the current situation with an eye on the future. It touches on a variety of issues, with an emphasis on feasibility."

Vice Chairman of the KMT party, Chiang Hsiao-Yen, announced the joint-recommendation of the forum. It noted that the theme of this year's forum was promoting and deepening cross-strait cultural and educational exchanges and cooperation.
