This year's Dragon Boat holiday is drawing to a close. Despite the combined effects of a global epidemic threat and the world economy downturn, the national holiday has seen no decline in tourism revenue.

On the last day of the holiday, most travellers chose short distance routes, mainly visiting scenic spots in the surrounding countryside. There are many popular destinations located around Beijing - Tianjin and the Yangzte River Delta region.

Some tourists began to return to their hometowns. A few cities reported travel peaks at train stations and heavy traffic on main roads. However, authorities say this is within the capacity of their travel departments, and neither delay nor congestion has been reported.

In the aviation sector, far fewer travellers chose to tour abroad, especially to regions in North America, for fear of flu infections. But this decline was offset by a record number of trips between the mainland and Taiwan. As this Dragon Boat holiday is the first since the normalization of cross-strait flights, many tickets were sold out. Wooed by the traditional festival and the offer of direct flights, the flow of passengers increased by more than ten percent from a year earlier.
