Special Report: China navy's escorting mission |

Naval warships sent by China to guard against pirates off the Somali Coast have escorted 331 vessels since last December. 60 of these ships belong to other countries. In recent weeks, merchant boats have expressed appreciation to the Navy for their protection.

The task force has just finished its 54th mission, ensuring that 9 merchant ships reached their destination safely.

Last month, the Chinese frigate Huangshan escorted a Filipino chemical tanker released from Somali pirates, and provided it with supplies including food and medicine. The Filipino Vice-President said the activity demonstrates China's responsible role in undertaking international obligations.
