To ensure Chinese products are safe for consumers in China and around the world, the central and local governments are stepping up efforts in quality supervision and inspection. In today's Made In China report, we look at the national campaign for improved quality.

In Liaocheng city, Shandong Province, local quality supervisors are carrying out a surprise inspection of a soft drink plant.

An informant had tipped them off the plant has no license.

The team finds the factory door is locked from the outside.

People inside say they don't have the key.

Over the phone, the owner had promised to come soon, but fails to show up even after the

supervisors break the lock under the eye of the police.

The workers have all run away.

The supervisors find no sanitation equipment, just a warehouse with thousands of bottles of beverage.

Inspection reveals rusty caps and dirty bottles.

Zhao Chuanwen, Official of Liaocheng Quality Supervision Bureau says "Soft drink production requires a license. Unlicensed beverages like these must be confiscated. If testing shows them to be unsafe, they will be destroyed."
