Chinese suppliers have played an important role in the localization and success of international fast food franchises like McDonald's and Yum. They started from zero and won nearly all of the contracts in China in less than 2-decades with high quality products.
Duan Xin is a vegetable dealer in Shanghai. He supplies McDonald's and KFC. And Duan recently won contracts with major supermarkets in the city.
But success hasn't come easily. When he started business 15 years ago, Duan Xin nearly lost everything because of poor quality control.
Duan Xin said, "Before shipping, Customs found insects in our vegetables. The quarantine measures to kill the insects made the vegetables inedible."
That put an end to Duan's plan to expand into the international market, but foreign companies gave him new opportunities.
