In Logar Province at least three Afghan police and two civilians have been killed in an attack on government buildings by Taliban gunmen and suicide bombers. The is the latest in a series of assaults before elections on August the 20th.
Another deadly attack ahead of Afghanistan's presidential and local elections.
On Monday, militants fired four rocket propelled grenades at the provincial governor's compound and two at the police chief's office in the city of Pul-i-Alam, the capital of Logar province.
A gunbattle then broke out between the security forces and the militants, who took up position in a building behind the governor's compound.
Abdul Aziz, Pul-i-Alam Resident, said, "When they were trying to enter the building the guard tried to stop them. I heard three shots fired. I was working near the building and I ran away. I then heard a few rockets being fired, they hit the governor's house and the police headquarters."
Gun battles lasted several hours. Police said US helicopters patrolled the skies, and one fired a rocket at an attacker and killed him.
