China says it believes the 13th round of border talks with India will play a positive role in promoting bilateral relations. The talks will begin on Friday in New Delhi. State Councilor Dai Bingguo will meet with India's National Security Advisor, M.K. Narayanan.

The two sides will discuss a political solution to the border issue. Chinese delegation spokesman Ma Zhaoxu told an interviewer on Thursday that the two countries look forward to deepening the strategic partnership through dialogue.

Ma said, "Sino-Indian relations are currently developing in the right direction. Mutual trust is building between the two countries while cooperation in trade, defense and culture has been expanding. Both sides are also coordinating well in international affairs. China looks forward to continuing this progress. It will promote strategic mutual trust, deepen cooperation, and strengthen communication with India. China hopes to push forward the steady and sound development of the bilateral strategic cooperative partnership."
