Special Report: World tackles A/H1N1 flu |

With the vaccine for the A/H1N1 flu expected to be ready by October, Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive Donald Tsang has announced the government's decision to order the vaccine.

Hong Kong has so far reported 41 confirmed cases of the flu. Although all of these patients arrived in Hong Kong from elsewhere, local health authorities believe that local transmissions could emerge. The symptoms of A/H1N1 appear to be mild, but if they occur during the flu season, and mutate, the virus could become more serious. Tsang said the government should do its best to reduce the danger of the virus.

Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive Donald Tsang said, "Drug manufacturers have started the production of the A/H1N1 vaccine. But the number will be limited. The government should take preemptive measures. We've just decided to order the vaccines as soon as possible. We must ensure adequate supply for four needy groups. They are medical staff, children between six months and six years old, the seniors over the age of 65, and others with certain types of health problems."
