Nanjing University in east China's Jiangsu province has awarded an honorary doctorate degree to Kuomintang Chairman, Wu Poh-hsiung.

Nanjing University says Wu Poh-hsiung has made great contributions to boosting cross-Strait relations and peaceful development. The award also recognizes his "scholarly attainment", as well as the "wisdom and courage" he has demonstrated in "promoting the solidarity of the Chinese nation and cross-Strait prosperity".
Wu says he shares the honor with all people from BOTH sides of the Taiwan Strait who believe the two sides belong to the same Chinese nation. And for all those who aspire to common peaceful development.
Wu Poh-hsiung also says the mainland and Taiwan have achieved significant achievement in developing cross-Strait relations. And that the island witnessed much closer economic and cultural cooperation with Jiangsu, last year. About 700 students and officials attended the ceremony.
