Chinese experts say the main purpose is to build trust, not to resolve specific problems.

Strategic and economic talks used to be held separately.

The strategic dialogue has held six rounds since 2005. Topics included the national strategies and security. The two sides recognized that cooperation was vital to their interests.

Five rounds of strategic economic dialogue have been held since 2006. The US enlarged its participation in the Chinese financial market and the two countries signed an investment guarantee accord.

An expert from Renmin University says this dialogue is more technical, so he doesn't expect specific results.
