Mainland buying mission arrives in Taiwan

The Chinese mainland has dispatched a procurement mission to Taiwan to promote cross-strait business cooperation. This is the second purchase mission to Taiwan following the group dispatched at the end of May.

The mission, led by officials from the Ministry of Commerce arrived in Taiwan on Sunday. The group will buy products including food, fruits, daily necessities and craft items.

Shu Zhaolin, Secretary-General of Assoc. of Eco. & Trade across the Taiwan Straits said "We'd like to buy some food such as cakes and pastries with local flavor and soy source as well as local drinks. These are favorites for many mainland consumers."

Cheng Jun, Deputy GM of Wuhan Zhongbai Group said "Taiwan snacks such as dried fruits and meat are very popular in our supermarkets, with sales doubling year on year."

More than 150 representatives from over 80 mainland companies signed up for the mission. They include large enterprises, financial institutions and some smaller companies involved in trading and logistics. The group will also explore business opportunities with local companies, seeking ways for further cooperation. Meanwhile, a special conference will be held in Taipei to explain the policies of the mainland to expand domestic consumption, and to outline the rules relating to this activity.
