Mainland, Taiwan to hold economic & cultural forum in July

The Chinese Mainland and Taiwan will hold their fifth economic and cultural forum in July. A spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council says more than four hundred people have confirmed participation. Fan Liqing says the Mainland welcomes the participation of members from the Democratic Progressive Party.

The spokeswoman says the cross-straits forum will be held between July 10 to 12, in Changsha, capital of Hunan. For the first time, culture and education will be the theme. The two sides are busily getting ready.

Fan Liqing, Spokeswoman of State Council Taiwan Affairs Office said "The cultural creation industry is rising, so there is a lot of room for the two sides to cooperate in this field. As education is a common concern, there's great demand and potential in educational cooperation."

Fan says response has been enthusiastic. Kuomintang Chairman Wu Poh-Hsiung will lead the Taiwan delegation.

Fan Liqing said "There will be more than four hundred delegates from the two sides, in culture, education, cultural creation, economy, as well as student delegates. And we welcome the participation of members from the Democratic Progressive Party."

Fan Liqing says activities include a seminar to discuss hot topics like cooperation in trade, environmental protection, and energy.
