Special Report: GM Reshuffles amid Auto Crisis |

While people inside GM's headquarters are anxious to figure out the direction of the company's future, people outside the firm are saddened by the loss of a once-proud legend. AMY BAINBRIDGE takes a look.

Nearly everybody in the Detroit, Michigan area is affected by the health of the automotive industry. Most people who live in or near Detroit are worried about the future of GM and the people that rely on the auto industry.

Detriot Resident, said, "I'm scared for the city of Detroit and even the suburbs. A lot of people depend on automotive and GM. I mean restaurants, day care, everybody. We are all connected."

Detriot Resident, said, "We're a GM family. Her uncle worked for GM in Cleveland. We're always going to drive GM, American cars. That's the way it is. Some of it's more of a commitment than a product choice. It's more family and what it has meant to our communities."

Meanwhile, people outside the US factories are also feeling the brunt of GM's bankruptcy.

Mark Reuss, General Manager, GM Holden, Australia, said, "Well, ah, you know, we have no plans for any job losses right now. I guess I'd say that right now. We've had pay cuts across the whole company, including myself. We've had a re-structuring to two crews in one shift without any job losses."

Today, GM employs 235-thousand workers globally and 91-thousand in the United States. New plans to close or suspend production in 12 factories will mean shedding more than 20-thousand jobs.
