A list of the first batch of energy saving air conditioners has been released by the National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Finance.

The government will give a subsidy of 300 to 650 yuan for the purchase of air conditioners that have an energy efficiency grade of two. That subsidy will increase to 500 to 850 yuan for models that have received a first class energy efficiency rating.

The list includes 1,140 models of energy saving air conditioners from 19 brands such as Haier, Gree, Midea, and Hiseng. The 19 manufacturers have together signed an agreement, promising to give all the subsidies to consumers.

The new move is expected to raise the market share of energy saving air conditioners from the current 5 percent to 30 percent in two years. The new policy will also drive up consumption by 60 billion yuan.
