Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan said both sides are committed to "trade liberalization," and would be involved in one another's economic recovery. He also said the two sides will implement consensus reached at the G-20 Summit and work to reverse the economic downturn.

Wang Qishan, Chinese vice premier, said, "We have reached extensive consensus, identified priorities and targets for cooperation, and worked out a roadmap and timetable for actions."

EU Trade Commissioner Catherine Ashton described the talks as "inspirational." She said the discussions covered issues of open trade, customs cooperation and intellectual property rights.

EU Trade Commissioner Catherine Ashton said, "Our meeting is a visible demonstration that......We are inter-twined and inter-dependent."

Both sides agreed they oppose trade protectionism and vowed to improve their partnership. The two-day meeting also covered a series of other topics, including investment, the development of small and medium sized enterprises, and product safety.
