Where is the next wave of economic growth coming from? Amid the global economic slowdown, many are asking this question.

3G and related industries, may be one answer. As large-scale applications for 3G come online, mobile Internet service is seen as one of the sectors with huge business potential. Venture capital firms have already poured billions of yuan into the industry, hoping that their gamble in this new sector will pay off down the road.

Yu Yongfu is a former venture capitalist. He was vice president at Lenovo Capital. However, at the end of 2006, he quit the firm to start his own business. What interested him was the mobile web browser UCWEB. Not only was the technology homegrown, Chinese enterprises also held the intellectual property right to it. He believes he made the right move.

Yu Yongfu, CEO of UCWEB said "I think starting from 2009, the future 3 years will be the high-speed development phase for China’s mobile Internet. The industry will grow, and mature after 2011. There will be plenty of new business opportunities, and services emerging."
