Shao Qiwei made the comment on Sunday at the Bo'ao Forum. He says the global tourism industry has been hurt by the financial crisis as consumer confidence has slumped. The number of overseas travellers to China in the first quarter of this year was down seven percent year on year.

Shao Qiwei says despite challenges and uncertainties, the fundamentals driving the prosperity of China's tourism industry have not changed. He says economic stimulus packages in China and other countries will encourage consumer confidence and boost travel demand.
