Passenger car sales reached 772,000 in March, up more than 10 percent from a year earlier, and up 27 percent from February. Total vehicle sales including cars, buses and trucks, came to a monthly record of 1.1 million units in March, up five percent.

China overtook the United States as the world's number one auto market in January, posting sales growth above 20 percent three years in a row until it slowed to single-digit growth in 2008.
