The Thai government has tried its best to help the hard-hit tourism industry to little effect. Insiders say the impact of the recent events will not fade in the short term, and the disorder in the resort town of Pattaya is expected to worsen the situation. Late last year, the closure of Bangkok's two main airports resulted in losses of an estimated 3.7 billion US dollars. Thai tourism authorities say the protests this time will result in losses of a similar scale.
