Shopping vouchers are becoming an ever more popular means to boost consumption. Many big Chinese cities, including Chengdu, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Tianjin, are making use of them.

But the practice has its critics. Let's hear what some lawmakers are saying.

Chen Tiexiong, NPC deputy said "Travel coupons are not the only tourism issue. For the tourism industry, they could improve the sector's economy. For general public, it could improve they daily life."

Dai Zhongchuan, NPC deputy said " I think we should release some shopping vouchers this year. And offering shopping tickets to low- and middle income groups will definitely receive some effect. "

Zhu Liping, NPC deputy said "I dont think we should taken this step to the nationwide. Every region has its own conditions, and they should make their won decisions whether to take the coupon program or not."

Liu Qingnian, NPC deputy said "Farmers' incomes should be increased. We should also raise the salary standard of low-income group in urban areas. If the earnings of those 2 groups have been improved, our domestic demand could be really boosted."
