Special Report:   2009 NPC & CPPCC Sessions

Employment continues to be one of the hottest topics during the annual sessions of the NPC and CPPCC. And university graduates are bracing for quite a difficult year ahead in job-hunting. Let's hear what some of the members are saying about the issue.

Gu Binglin, CPPCC member said "I think some jobs in rural and grass-roots areas, such as primary school or high school teachers in villages might not be a bad idea for university graduates. They might think these jobs won't lead to anywhere. But they are necessary jobs, especially for someone who wants a position as village head."

Tang Jianwu, CPPCC member said "We need to show college graduates the importance of these jobs, and our recognition for their contributions. The recognition should also include economic compensation. My major is medicare. For instance, if a doctor works in grass-roots areas, we could send the person to big hospitals for training for around 3 to 5 months every year."

Peng Zhimin, CPPCC member said "The situation of a tough job market for college graduates might continue for a quite long period of time and take a lot of time to solve. The issue is not a single problem. It includes the present education system, career planning and employment guidance for college students -- all working together. It also includes issues such as expectations for employment and jobs working in the social sector."
