Members have made it clear that promoting economic development is their primary task. The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, or the CPPCC, is part of China's socialist democratic political system.

Yang Lan, one CPPCC member said "My proposal this year is to introduce more university students to do volunteer work in society."

Feng Huajian, one CPPCC member said "To look at Hong Kong's experience to help China modernize its legal system."

It's much like an open forum for debates. This year's focus is the economy.

Wang Taozhi, one CPPCC member said "I think China's economic slowdown has almost bottomed out and is at the start of recovery."

Dong Shengbo, one CPPCC member said "I call for the government's 4 trillion-yuan investment to focus on agriculture instead of infrastructure."

Zhang Xuewu, one CPPCC member said "I'm optimistic about China's goal of 8-percent growth this year."
