China Securities Regulatory Commission said on Thursday it had approved the launch of steel futures by the Shanghai Futures Exchange.

The exchange will be trading steel wire and reinforced bar futures.

A senior official at the Shanghai Futures Exchange said it had received the green light from regulators, but a timetable for the launch of the contracts was still not known.

Brokers familiar with the situation said on Wednesday the Shanghai Futures Exchange planned to kick off steel-product futures trading on March 9. The exchange was conducting training sessions for domestic analysts.
