The on-going construction of Beijing-Shanghai Express Railway project has provided a great number of job opportunities. Since getting underway last April, it has employed 110 thousand workers. Many migrant workers who are returning home because of the economic downturn, are finding new employment in the project.

Liu Guanglin is one of the many returning migrant workers fortunate enough to find a new job working on the Beijing-Shanghai Express Railway.

Liu Guanglin says, "I just lost my job and returned home. Some of my co-workers are working at the railway, so I came here too. After training, I got the new job. I'm happy it's just near my home."

The Beijing-Shanghai Express Railway is employing labor workers during the construction process. The railway is giving preference to returning migrant workers, helping them to get re-employed. It is a key project at the national level, requiring workers with high technical standards. That's why training courses have been set up to prepare and qualify eligible migrant workers.

Gu Yu, project secretary of China Railway Construction, says, "for example, our steel bar team has 180 workers and 50 to 60 of them are local migrant workers. We are also in contact with the local government, to absorb more migrant workers according to our demand."

Figures show the Beijing-Shanghai Express Railroad has employed nearly 10 thousand returning migrant workers. And the railroad will continue to expand its employment rolls in 2009.
