Hong Kong's fifth biggest lender by market value, Bank of East Asia, said on Tuesday that it has become the first foreign bank to independently issue yuan-dominated credit cards in the Chinese mainland.

The move, which followed the bank's issuance of yuan-dominated debit cards in May, will help boost the bank's consumer lending business in the mainland.
