The surcharge for domestic flights less than 800 kilometers long will rise to 80 yuan from 60 yuan per passenger. And the surcharge for flights longer than 800 kilometers long will be increased to 150 yuan from 100 yuan per person.

The new charge will take effect on Tuesday, July 1st. Tickets issued before the close of business today will not be subject to the increase.

China's big airlines, including Air China and China Eastern, had sought the increase from Chinese authorities, as oil prices surged to record highs and pressured their profit margins.
