Prices are up in China, but the same hike has sparked a fall in oil prices worldwide. Also putting pressure on oil prices Thursday was the US dollar moving up against the Euro.

Earlier in the day, crude futures surged to 137.82 US dollars a barrel on news that an attack on a Royal Dutch Shell oil field in Nigeria had forced it to suspend operations. But prices soon retreated. In London, Brent crude futures for August delivery fell 4.40 to settle at 132 US dollars a barrel.
While US crude settled down nearly 5 dollars to 131.93 US dollars a barrel.
