Chinese President Hu Jintao and Chilean President Michelle Bachelet witnessed the signing of the agreement in Sanya city in south China's Hainan province. According to the pact, the two countries will further open their service sectors to each other's markets on the basis of their commitments to the World Trade Organization.

Altogether, 23 industries in China, including computer, mining, and environmental sectors, and 37 in Chile such as legal services, architectural design, engineering and real estate, were covered.

China and Chile signed an FTA in 2005 and put it into effect in October 2006. The bilateral trade soared 65 percent year on year in 2007 to 14.7 billion US Dollars.
