The Ministry of Commerce is calling on authorities at the provincial and county levels to ensure uninterrupted supply of goods and stable price tags.

At a national level meeting for business authorities from across the country, the Ministry of Commerce said macro-control on price tags and supply of important goods will be an important task throughout the whole year. Important goods include grain, oil and meat, among others. It's stressing that the national reserve system has to be enforced in order to deal with emergencies.

Minister of Commerce Chen Deming said, "We will monitor and supervise the supply and prices of important commodities. Business authorities at all levels need to carry out plans to ensure adequate supply, especially during the Spring Festival, the Olympic Games and other important national holidays."

The latest move by the Ministry of Commerce comes just several days after the National Development and Reform Commission announced national price controls on several items including grain, cooking oil, and liquefied petroleum gas.

In a circular to pricing departments at all levels, the NDRC said local governments should implement price control measures as soon as possible. That means local authorities will need to make a list of products, and their respective producers for supervision to make sure prices for those items do not rise at an excessive rate.
