The Ministry of Agriculture says the average per-capita annual income in rural regions is likely to top 4,000 yuan for this year. That is a seven percent increase from last year.

The Ministry of Agriculture says the average per-capita annual income in rural regions is likely to top 4,000 yuan for this year.

Farmers' incomes have grown more than 6 percent every year, for the last four years. But that figure still falls far below the more-than-10,000 yuan per capita income for those living in cities.

The Ministry has stressed its commitment to improving the livelihoods of farmers across China's vast rural regions.
