China's Ministry of Commerce says the country's trade surplus with Europe hit nearly 109 billion US dollars during the first ten months of this year. This surpasses the full-year figure of 91.7 billion US dollars for 2006.
Sales for European-based enterprises in China exceeded 206 billion US dollars last year. But their export volumes totaled only 43 billion US dollars. The Ministry of Commerce says globalization is the major reason behind the trade surge.
Wang Xinpei, MOFCOM Spokesperson said "Major factors behind the trade growth are globalization, economic complementarity between China and Europe and worldwide industry shifts. We do not intend to seek trade surplus. China is seeking balanced trade, and we plans to increase imports. "
