Special Report:   High Level Int'l FS Forum

Senior officials in charge of quality-control from China as well as ASEAN member states have been discussing how best to manage quality food exports.

The China-ASEAN Ministers' Conference on Quality Control aims to promote cooperation between China and ASEAN members.

China has put forward a proposal on improving food safety by boosting cooperation with the region saying both China and ASEAN member states should take joint responsibility for keeping standards high. China's quality watchdog is recommending that both sides promote exchanges in regulations, standards and information. It says more mutual visits by food safety managers and personnel will help to improve management and technical support.

Li Changjiang, Director of AQSIQ said "Product quality and food safety are very important to social stability. All regions and nations should enhance cooperation with each other."

Li Changjiang says ASEAN is China's 4th largest trade partner right now, and that there is increasing cooperation in both food and agricultural sectors.
