Special Report:   17th CPC National Congress

China's consumer price index, or CPI, grew 4.1 percent in the first nine months of this year, compared with the same period last year. This is according to a delegate from the National Development and Reform Commission at a group discussion of the on-going Party Congress on Wednesday.

Core CPI, derived from the general CPI without seasonal factors like food and energy prices, is considered a more precise gauge for measuring inflation. It grew 0.8 percent year-on-year during the period.

The official said, in general, China has not experienced an overall price increase caused by a significant imbalance of aggregate demand and supply. In addition, the fast CPI growth is supported by robust economic growth. And price changes are still in a "controllable" range.
