With its thriving economy, Hong Kong is taking on new looks everyday, and now, so is its currency. The Hong Kong SAR government has issued the first batch of plastic banknotes with face values of 10 Hong Kong dollars. The notes were issued by HSBC.
Some 100 Hong Kong citizens were queuing at a bank in Mong Kok on Monday to exchange their old banknotes for new plastic ones. They say the plastic notes are soft and more durable.
Besides the new texture, the plastic note has a transparent window with a ribbon inside. The pink ribbon turns purple when you look at it from different angles.
