As a way to improve service and offer bankcard users more convenience, China's central bank has increased the ATM daily withdrawal limit from five thousand yuan to twenty thousand yuan. Most Chinese residents are welcoming the move.

China Construction Bank, China Merchants Bank and China Everbright Bank have become the first to respond to the call. Effective Tuesday, a person can now withdraw up to 20 thousand yuan from ATM machines belonging to those three banks.

The limit of each ATM withdrawal however, differs from bank to bank. For China Construction Bank, the limit remains unchanged at two thousand yuan. Depositors will have to operate 10 times if they want to withdraw twenty thousand yuan.

Some people have security concerns about withdrawing such a large sum from an ATM machine. But most bank customers believe it's more convenient for them.

"It's only not safe for those who are careless about their password," says a citizen.

"Before I would have to go to banks and wait in long queues if I needed to withdraw such a large sum. But now, I can do it at ATMs. It's very convenient,"says a citizen.

As overseas banks begin introducing RMB businesses in China, domestic banks are striving to improve their services to fight the competition. Some banks such as the Agricultural Bank of China have adopted more flexible working systems in order to cut the waiting time for customers.

It's uncertain what other measures may be taken. But one thing is for certain, it's Chinese consumers who are benefiting from the upgrades.
