Hong Kong Tourism Board asked neighboring city Shenzhen's Tourism Bureau on Monday to investigate a report that claims some visitors from the Chinese mainland were cheated while shopping in Hong Kong.

The board's chairman James Tien said the report by China Central Television (CCTV will impact the Chinese mainland visitors ' propensity to travel to Hong Kong.

"We therefore immediately contacted the Shenzhen Tourism Bureau and requested it to assist in the investigation and follow up with the related travel agency promptly," he said.

"We have also reported the incident to the China National Tourism Administration, which expressed its concern about the matter."

The board has contacted the CCTV program's producers, and asked them to produce programs highlighting tips for shopping in Hong Kong.

To tie in with the upcoming Labor Day Golden Week, the board will launch a series of promotions, and enhance publicity for the Honest and Quality Hong Kong Tour and the Quality Tourism Services scheme in the Chinese mainland, to build a positive image of Hong Kong.
