Special Report:   Premier Wen visits Japan

Trade between China and Japan continues to deepen, with total volume topping a record of over 207 billion US dollars in the past year.

According to the figures newly released by the Ministry of Commerce, the Sino-Japan trade volume more than doubled in only 4 years, making a new record of over 200 billion US dollars in 2006.

However, in 1978, the total volume was only over 1 billion US dollars. China is quickly becoming an important trade partner of Japan, with trade volume increasing largely in the past few years. For instance, the exports of electronic and machinery products to Japan jumped nearly 90 percent in the past half decade.

Meanwhile, Japan has also become China's third biggest trade partner, with foreign investment volume ranking the second among the other countries. The trade relationship between the two countries is expected to deepen and widen in 2007, with more cooperation to be carried out in areas such as energy saving, environmental protection, and service outsourcing.
