Beijing Olympic organizers are now making preparations to accommodate the huge number of spectators and tourists that will arrive here next year. By 2008, nearly four hundred thousand hotel rooms will be available in Beijing.

The Beijing Olympic organizing Committee has invited more than fifty thousand people from all over the world for the 16-day games. Nearly seventeen thousand will stay in the Olympic camp, while seven thousand journalists will be in the Media camp.

One hundred and twenty two designated hotels will welcome the members from the International Olympic Committee and other sports associations. The Beijing Grand Hotel will be a temporary headquarters, accommodating the IOC's president Jacques Rogge and his officials.

Xiang Ping, deputy director of Olympic Service Department said:“Apart from Beijing Grand Hotel, other designated hotels still have 30 percent of rooms that they can sell by themselves.”

Xiang Ping says these designated hotels only account for about 16 percent of all hotels in Beijing. By 2008, there will be a hundred more star hotels, taking the number to eight hundred. And with more than four thousand small hotels, Beijing will be able to offer nearly four hundred thousand rooms.

The highest prices in specially designated hotels will range from 200 to 370 US dollars for a standard room. The cost of rooms for tourists will vary according to the market.
