Shanghai is setting high energy saving goals for industries and enterprises this year. City authorities said on Monday that they will be scrutinizing the specific and tangible steps that companies take. Officials say for each 10,000-yuan value-added, energy consumption should decrease by 6.2 percent for industries and 3 percent for commerce.
Starting this year, companies consuming over 5000 tons of coal per year are required to report their monthly energy consumption data to authorities. The city has also laid down a series of tough enforcement measures, designed to punish and squeeze out inefficient energy practices.
