The program aims to highlight the concept of a "Green Olympics", and provide better accommodation for visitors during the event.
A news conference by BOCOG on Thursday marked the official start of the "Green Hotel" program, which will involve hotel application and expert verification through this year and first half of 2008. It's all part of efforts by Beijing to make all its Olympic hotels environmentally friendly.
Xiang Ping, deputy director of BOCOG Games Service Department, said "BOCOG will join hands with the relevant authorities to examine and verify these Olympic hotels early next year. Those that fail to meet requirements will be disqualified from their Olympic status."
According to the Olympic organizers, Beijing's Olympic hotels are now updating facilities and services in order to be comfortable as well as energy-saving.
Some 112 leading hotels have been signed up and authorized as Olympic hotels, and will receive both domestic and overseas visitors during the games. The city's accommodation capacity is also expanding with more hotels being revamped and constructed.
