Special Report:   2008 Beijing Olympics

With still one and half years to go before the 2008 Olympic Games, hotels in Beijing are now accepting room reservations for the big event. And they see overseas bookings are coming in fast.

As the reservations start, hotels around Beijing are receiving bookings one after another.

Guan Tao, hotel industry insider, said "From the beginning of the year, travel agencies are swarming in for bookings. 95 percent of our rooms have been booked."

The Beijing tourism authority predicts that the entire city would provide over 300-thousand guest rooms with about 570-thousand beds to meet the Olympic accommodation demands.

Not only the bookings, the Olympics is also boosting the room prices.

Industry insider Min Wei said "Our prices will change according to the market demands. The earlier customers book, the cheaper the prices will be. "

According to figures released from real estate consulting firm Jones Lang LaSalle, the average price for a night at a four or five star hotel in Beijing in 2006 surged to 896 yuan, or about 115 US dollars. That's an eight percent hike from the previous year. Profits from each room also grew 7 percent during the same period.

Insiders say Beijing's strong economic momentum will create more space for a continuous development in the market.
